Additional Information Regarding the Search Functionality

Search terms are not case sensitive. "Steinbeck" and "steinbeck" and "sTeInBecK" are interpreted the same way.

Quotation marks are stripped from the search terms; multiple words in a single SEARCH TERM field are considered a single search phrase.

The CATEGORY drop-down list allows you to narrow your search by selecting specific areas to search such as "author" or "title." You may also select "keyword," which will search for your term throughout all relevant fields.

Type your search string in the SEARCH TERM field. If your wish to search for a particular phrase, such as "Tom Joad," enter the words "Tom Joad". If you want to search for the individual words "Tom" and "Joad," use two different entries—for example, one in which the keyword is "Tom" and one in which the keyword is "Joad."

The AND/OR radio buton allows you to connect your search requirements. For instance, if you want to search for all items written by "Steinbeck" with the word "Salinas" in the abstract or the word "Monterey" in the title, you would select:

  • category: author, search term: Steinbeck, the AND radio button
  • category: abstract, search term: Salinas, the OR radio button
  • category: article/book title, search term: Monterey
